The Museum HOUSE OF HUMOUR AND SATIRE is one of the 100 national tourist sites of Bulgaria
On page 16 of the latest edition of the booklet 100 Tourist Sites of Bulgaria keen tourists can "stamp" their visit to 4 tourist sites emblematic of the region of Gabrovo. Among them is the one and only in Bulgaria world humour art museum - the House of Humour and Satire - which ranks among the most touristy sites in the country.
Gabrovo - the geographical centre of Bulgaria that lies 220 km east of the capital Sofia, 150 km northeast of Plovdiv (the second biggest city in Bulgaria), 274 km west of Varna (the biggest Bulgarian port on the Black Sea) and 153 km south of Ruse (the biggest Bulgarian port on the Danube).
Unless you are on a package tour or travel by your own vehicle, you can reach Gabrovo by bus or train. Gabrovo Bus Station is only a few-minute walk to the Museum HOUSE OF HUMOUR AND SATIRE.
The House of Humour and Satire is the right starting point for every tourist curious to explore for himself the wealth of the historical, cultural and natural heritage on the territory of the smallest district in Bulgaria. To be found here are: ETAR Architectural-Ethnographic Complex; BOZHENTSI Reserve of Architecture and History; National Museum of Education; two national nature parks; monasteries, churches, eco-paths and smaller towns that have preserved the atmosphere of the Bulgarian National Revival. Should night overtake the tourist on the road, TRIVAGO.BG is where he can find Balkan Mountains hospitality and cosiness.
Should you decide to take a piece of Gabrovo humour away with you, don't pass by the
SOUVENIR SHOP. This is the one and only place where you can find unique Gabrovo souvenirs (1/2 coffee-cups, utensils for unwelcomed guests, Gabrovo beer mugs, clocks that work counter-clockwise, white and black statues of cats, cups for reading one's future, Forget-it ash-trays, cups for moustached men, tapped eggs, etc.), as well as a variety of HHS publications. Only here can tourists buy the latest publication of GABROVO HUMOUR - ANECDOTES AND JOKES ABOUT GABROVIANS in 5 languages and an apron with Gabrovo recipes to survive an economic crisis.
A MEMENTO OF THE HOUSE OF HUMOUR AND SATIRE
Every visitor to the Museum HOUSE OF HUMOUR AND SATIRE can take back home a light souvenir - a BULGARIAN LEGACY collector's coin with the museum logo on it. The coin can be bought from a vending machine installed in front of the museum entrance; available also is brief information about Gabrovo humour, the carnival tradition in town and about Stefan Fartunov, founder and first director of the House of Humour and Satire.
The insiders have dubbed it the Giraffes' Hall, but in fact, it is a multifunctional space designed for carrying out diverse activities - from political meetings and discussions to literary readings and presentations of new authors and books, children's festivities, seminars and workshops for NGOs, etc. The conference hall can seat 100 people, and is equipped with a video-screen and modern audio-and-video facilities. The hall can be hired out on request.
HHSStudio offers production of complete musical products; mixing and processing of ready audio-recordings; interior and exterior sounding; audio-and-video recording of press-conferences, seminars, workshops, etc. The audio-and-video collection of the HHSStudio houses noteworthy interviews and artistic portraits of outstanding creators of humour, as well as recordings of all public events of the House of Humour and Satire.
