“The Address of Satire” – Creating an exhibition from the collection of the Museum “House of Humor and Satire” in Gabrovo, along with an accompanying program exploring the role and boundaries of satire and its exhibition in renovated spaces within the Museum.
The project of the Museum “House of Humor and Satire” in collaboration with the Norwegian University College for Green Development (HGUt) has a duration of 22 months. It will be implemented from July 2022 to April 2024 with financial support from the EEA Financial Mechanism.
As part of the planned activities, three museum spaces will be renovated. The renovation activities will be organized in stages to keep the Museum open to visitors. The selection of construction materials and technologies will align with green standards. Within the project, two exhibitions will be created from the Museum’s collection – a permanent one and a temporary one, showcasing the role of satire in societal processes. The development and presentation of the new exhibitions will involve innovative technologies and tools providing a new perspective on cultural heritage. The temporary exhibition will be a product of community participation, and training sessions will be organized for Museum specialists and staff from other museums to enhance their competence and improve the quality of cultural heritage management.
The Norwegian University College for Green Development is developing an innovative methodology for creating exhibitions through community curation. The methodology See One, Do One, Teach One will be introduced, allowing specific communities, empowered in collaboration with the Museum’s team, to express their understanding of the role of satire as a moral corrective in society and power. A new library service will provide access to the unique specialized book collection of the House of Humor and Satire – consisting of over 26,000 units. The museum library was established with the institution’s opening and operated until the end of the year 2000.
Two new expert positions will be created to work on attracting new audiences. The project envisions the preparation of new educational programs for students from 7th to 12th grade, accompanying the new exhibitions.
An entrepreneurial plan will be developed for the production of individual souvenirs based on works included in the permanent exhibition. Visitors will be able to customize their chosen item (bag, hat, t-shirt, or bandana) with designs from the Museum’s collections, children’s series, caricatures, without the need for mass production of ready-made products. The necessary equipment and materials for the plan’s implementation are provided.
The project includes three public events – a press conference, presentation of the community curation methodology and process (for curators and museum staff nationwide), and the official opening of the new exhibitions and library.
