How does imagination help us stay open to the possible?
On May 23–24, 2026, the symposium “Brieftopia: Archives of Futurity” was held in Gabrovo – a project of the Museum of Humor and Satire, implemented with the financial support of the Ministry of Culture. Organized by the Museum in partnership with Snezhana Krasteva and Behzad H. Noori, the forum brought together established artists, curators, researchers and thinkers from Bulgaria and Europe to talk about the future, imagination and the possibilities of thinking beyond the present.
The speakers were Behzad H. Noori, Boris Buden, Snezjana Mihajlova, Magnus Bartas, Maria Lind, Edgar Schmitz and Michael Dutton, who shared different perspectives on “brieftopia” as a critical and creative practice seeking new forms of imagination and action in conditions of uncertainty and an exhausted future.
The concept of the symposium was developed by Behzad H. Nouri and Snezhana Krasteva, who also moderated the two-day program.
The lectures from the symposium are now online.
