July 24 marked the 125th anniversary of the birth of Iliya Beshkov (1901 – 1958) – one of the most significant Bulgarian artists, caricaturists, illustrators and teachers of the 20th century.
On this occasion, on August 7, the Museum of Humor and Satire will present in Hall 4 the large-scale exhibition “Up Close. Caricatures, Sketches and Drawings by Iliya Beshkov”.
The curator of the exhibition is Krasimir Iliev. Special guests at the opening will be Savka Cholakova – the artist’s daughter-in-law, and Iliyana Beshkova – his granddaughter.
The exhibition will present works from the collection of the Museum of Humor and Satire, supplemented by works from the family archive, some of which are being shown to the public for the first time.
Visitors will have the opportunity to follow Beshkov’s rich creative heritage – from political and everyday caricatures to drawings, sketches and book illustrations.
With his insightful eye, exceptional drawing skills and a bright civic position, Iliya Beshkov remains among the most influential figures in Bulgarian fine arts. His works continue to speak with the same power today.
