Simeon Kolev Presents His New Book ‘User Manual for the Use and Exploitation of Man’ 2Simeon Kolev Presents His New Book ‘User Manual for the Use and Exploitation of Man’ 2

“HANDBOOK FOR THE USE AND EXPLOITATION OF MAN” 2
Author: Simeon Kolev
Date: January 12, 2024 /Friday/
Location: Museum of Humor and Satire – Gabrovo, 2nd floor, Giraffe Hall
Time: 5:30 PM

Simeon Kolev, known from “BG Radio,” has not only gathered listeners over the years but also readers. Following the success of his first “HANDBOOK FOR THE USE AND EXPLOITATION OF MAN” and “Mission DAD: Dialogues,” we are proud to present his third book – “User Manual for Men” 2.

In the second part, Simo Kolev brings together a fresh dose of texts about life and situations that happen to each of us. The collection’s allure lies precisely in its dedication to human relationships, simultaneously revealing the comedy and tragedy within them. Readers often find themselves relating to the narratives, sighing with relief that they are not the only ones who have experienced wild situations worthy of being described on a blank page.

Relationships, love, sex, breakups—what to expect from ourselves and those around us, what disappoints us, what charms us, and what hinders us from being true to ourselves. As someone who dislikes sorrow in any form, Simeon Kolev infuses more humor than drama even into the most dramatic and tearful texts. This time, the book also presents the female perspective, thanks to the kind collaboration of Bogdana Trifonova and Milena Tashkova.

The second part of the manual is akin to “Just Like That” for “Sex and the City.” It’s a logical and desired continuation with more stories about love, sex, and relationships between us, shares Simeon Kolev, adding: Some stories are more mature, some are current and real. These are the texts in the manual!

We look forward to seeing you! It will be an interesting and exciting encounter!

International Year of the Nameless FingerInternational Year of the Nameless Finger

Exhibition of Posters by Students from the National Academy of Arts

Opening: November 30, 5:30 PM, Hall 7
Duration: November 30, 2023 – February 29, 2024

The exhibition ‘International Year of the Nameless Finger’ presents unique solutions on the theme by 34 students specializing in ‘Poster and Visual Communication’ at the National Academy of Arts, branches in Sofia and Burgas. The humorous posters find their place anywhere and specifically in the Museum of Humor and Satire in Gabrovo.

The exhibition’s theme explores the nameless finger and its unjust neglect over the years. Provoked by this, their teacher Prof. Georgi Yankov decides to challenge his students by presenting them with the task of addressing this ‘problem.’ The National Academy of Arts students created 34 satirical posters, giving new names to this forgotten finger. In their concepts, they seek a contemporary and unburdened interpretation of the ‘sensitive issue,’ demonstrating the importance of the nameless finger in the end.

The new names can be divided into practical, comical, and creative categories. How would you name the nameless finger?

The participating students in the exhibition are:
Adelina Zlatareva, Akseniya Avramova, Alexandra Mitova, Ana Ivanova, Anna-Maria Adamova, Afrodita Sarieva, Ashkan Sedat, Bozhidara Dimitrova, Valeri Dimitrov, Venelina Petkova, Ventsislav Nanov, Viktoria Ilieva, Gabriel Petrov, Gergana Yankova, Desislava Fuchedzhieva, Elena Gencheva, Ivan Petrov, Ivana Angelova, Ivett Petrova, Iliana Ilcheva, Yoan Yotov, Kristiyan Dimitrov, Lyuboslav Boyanov, Mina Dicheva, Monika Radeva, Nikol Stoykova, Prolet Borisova, Radina Simeonova, Ralitsa Vuleva, Rossena Todorova, Simeon Dimitrov, Stefani Atanasova, Tea Micheva, and Yana Dobreva.”

Moments of Art and Laughter at the Museum of Humor and SatireMoments of Art and Laughter at the Museum of Humor and Satire

Despite a reduced team, the meeting on November 14, 2023 with our friends from the Disability Club blended art and laughter into an exciting experience. The event began with the whimsically humorous poems by Temenuga Tsoneva and continued with the idea of integrating them into the exhibition.

“Exploring the works from the Painting Fund, we were impressed by the variety of techniques and expressiveness—from paintings by Naum Hadzhigenov, Milka Peykova, Atanas Vasilev, Vulchan Petrov to Radi Nedelchev. Each artwork told its story, sparking an even stronger desire for collaboration in us,” shared one of the participants in the community curation process.

Thus, another meeting passed, leaving not only admiration for art in the hearts of the participants but also anticipation for more such exciting moments in the future.

The selection is nearing its completion, but many tasks still lie ahead before the exhibition opens.

Did you know that there are so many species of Prilepites in the world that their number is one-fourth of all animal species? Their image is associated with the strangest superstitions, beliefs, and myths. Prilepites scare people; in popular culture, they are often portrayed as villains. In recent years, attention to them has intensified due to suspicions that they are the source of the coronavirus, despite scientific evidence contradicting these claims.

In today’s world, Prilepites are under serious threat. The destruction of their habitats, hunting, climate change, and other factors can lead to their disappearance, resulting in an ecological catastrophe.

The visit of the installation “In the Small Big World of Prilepites” at the Museum of Humor and Satire is an extremely rare opportunity for the audience in the region to see the world in a completely new way, quite literally. Different parts of the installation’s story will be located in various rooms. The audience will not just be observers but direct participants. The various objects placed in different parts of the museum will allow each participant to see and feel the surrounding environment through the senses of Prilepites. They will try to hunt like them, see like them, and create ultrasound at the frequency of Prilepites. Each audience member will even have the opportunity to learn how much food they would need daily if they were a Prilepite. One of the challenges will be a brief competition in distinguishing scientific from pseudoscientific or false information.

The “36 Monkeys” team creates an extensive route between knowledge and simulation in an active exhibition environment, treating scientific facts as an essential source of understanding the world around us.
